Team CycloSport - The first Women's Cycling Team in NZ to be registered as a BikeNZ domestic Trade Team, has been established as a Cycling Development Team to provide a structured coaching-science pathway to enable the riders to follow a professional cycling career. Ensuring that career and educational advice and personal development programme are included, with the emphasis on ‘coaching the person', not just the athlete. The team utilises a state of the art web based monitoring and coaching programme. The programme allows a professional coaching science based approach to the riders development whilst allowing careful monitoring of all aspects of their training, health and racing. The CycloSport Team programme helps facilitate a career pathway to a professional team. Establishing new opportunities and building on current relationships with UK and European based teams. This aspect has already proved successful with a team member racing in a European professional team in 2008 and two further riders racing in Europe in 2009. In 2010 five riders from the team will compete in Europe with Dutch Clubs. A major advancement for the team. The CycloSport Team currently comprises eight female riders, all with proven ability to achieve at the highest level. The team has over the past two years won over fifteen national secondary school cycling titles in addition to winning Oceania and National Championships and represented New Zealand at the World Junior Cycling Championships. In 2009 the team competed in the UCI 2.2 Women's Wellington 3 x Day Tour, finishing first NZ Team. In April, the team was invited to the UCI 2.1 and 1.1 Tour of Chongming Island in China. The team personnel are bright, intelligent and above all good people with a clear and determined approach to their sporting endeavours. Coaching Philosophy: Is based on ‘Coaching the Person' rather than coaching the athlete. This approach takes into consideration the all round development of the athlete and ensures the ongoing development of life-skills crucial to preparing the rider to be fully equipped to assume the responsibilities of an elite professional athlete.
